The West Midlands village of Wordsley, once part of the Manor of Kingswinford, is located south of Kingswinford and north of Stourbridge. It first held a two day race meeting in the Belle Vue area on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th September 1860 and continued to hold two day meetings in September for the next 7 years. Although many of the races on each day were reserved for ponies, at the meeting on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th September 1864 the Wordsley Stakes, three times around the course, was won by Mr Cherrington’s Kitty who also picked up the Silver Cup the next day. The later Tradesmen’s Plate went to Mr Pearman’s Perhaps. A notable feature of many of the cards held at the track was the high percentage of successful favourites. After the meeting in September 1867 there was a break until racing was revived in 1896. Meetings continued to be well supported until the final card was staged on Monday 8th September 1902.
